Purjehduskilpailuista /About sailing competitions

Olen kirjannut aina purjehduskilpailujen jälkeen oman sijoituksen muihin verrattuna ylös. Siitä saa pitemmällä ajanjaksolla näkyviin, onko oikeasti opittu purjehtimaan trimaraania. Taulukosta voi myös nähdä, mikä on Dragonfly 800 cruising-veneen todellinen nopeus. Siitä voi ounastella, että tosi kevyillä tuulilla ollaan vain hieman samankokoista kölivenettä hitaampia. Mitä kovemmaksi tuuli nousee, sitä kovempaa menee. Sitten kun vasta-aalto rupeaa kasvamaan isoksi, niin Trimmu ei kevyenä veneenä mene aallon läpi, kuten isommat.

Tietysti racing versio samasta veneestä pitempine mastoineen menee kovempaa.

I have wrote down the data compared to other boats. On a long time period, you can see if we have learned to sail trimaran. From the data can also be seen the real speed of Dragonfly 800 cruising boat. When the wind is very light, its is only a little slower than a boat of same size. When the wind comes bigger, the speed goes harder. But when the counter waves grow bigger the speed also falls down, because Trimmu is light boat.

Of course the racing version of same boat is faster.

Yöpurjehdus /Night sailing competition 2011 (14)18.6.2011

Tuuli oli alussa ihan mukavaa 8-10 m/s, parasta Trimmutuulta. Isot veneet meni edellä Ruotsinsalmeen. Salmen jälkeen,ennen Vehkaluotoa oli loivaa luovia. Kulku oli tasaista ja vauhdit hyviä. Köliveneet jäivät taakse. Enskerin kohdalla oltiin vielä fyysisesti ensimmäisinä. Reivattiin, koska myötäsessä mentiin hurjaa vauhtia edellä menevään aaltoon.

Enskerin jälkeen alkoi luovi kovaan vasta-aaltoon. Normaalisti Trimmu on kuiva, mutta nyt vesi lensi. Kun ei vielä ollut sadevaatteita päällä niin oltiin märkiä. Ennen Piritovaa Nella meni ohi.

Haapasaaren jälkeen poistettiin reiviä, mutta silloin rikkoutui puomin etunivel. Tilalle värkättiin köysiviritys.

Loput luovit olivatkin sitten tuskaa.

The wind was in start 8-10m/s, best Trimmu wind. Big boats went first to Ruotsinsalmi. (a narrow strait). After the strait, before Vehkaluoto there were light tackin. Speeds were good and sailing was steady. Keelboats were behind. On the turningpoint Enskeri we were still physically firs. We took a reef because it seemed very hard on tailwind with much speed.

After the Enskeri we tacked towards quite big waves. Normally Trimmu is not very wet boat, but now the water flowed. Before Piritova Nella passed us.

After Haapasaari we tried to take off one reef, but on the same time the frontjoint of boom broked. We had to fix it by rope.

The rest of tackings were "difficult",

Veleiro cup (13) 16.6.2011

Tuuli oli taas kevyttä lounaistuulta. Lähtö onnistui hyvin. Tällä kertaa kokeiltiin peräsimen nostamista, jotta vedenalainen vastus pienenisi.

Kovin kevyellä tuulella nopeimpia ovat sellaiset veneet, joilla on pienin märkäpinta. Trimmulla kolmine ponttooneineen on suuri märkäpinta. Maalissa oltiin viidentenä. Ero nopeimpaan veneeseen oli 4 minuuttia.

Luovikyky näillä tuulilla on lähes sama yksirunkoveneiden kanssa. Luovisijoituksen ratkaisee se kuinka hyvin löytää hyvät vireet ja kuinka käännökset onnistuu. Myötäsellä ehkä jopa joitakin veneitä saavutettiin.

The wind was light southwest wind. The start was good. This time we tried to lift the rudder to degrees the under water resistance.

When the wind is very light, such boats are good, which have small under water resistance. Trimmu with three sideframes has a big under water resistance. In the finish line we were third. The difference to best boat was 4 minutes.

The ability to tack in these winds is as good as keelboats. The succes on tacking depends on how well you find good breezes and how well the turns succeed. In the tailwind part we even sailed a little better than competitors.

Kevyttä tuulta /Light wind (12) 12.6.2011

Kevyttä tuulta oli luvattu ja niin myös kävi. Vauhdit viiden solmun hujakoissa. Kun vauhti laskee alle kuuden nostan peräsintä ylös. Ohut lukituslaite pitää veneen suunnalla.

Light wind was promised and it also happened. The speeds were around 5 knots. When the speed drops below 6 I get the rudder up.

Långö (11) 11.6.2011

Lähtö venyi taas iltapäivään. Tuuli oli kevyttä kaakkoistuulta. Parhaat puuskat tulivat sataman edustalla.

Illalla lueskelin kirjaa Sieppari ruispellossa.

The start happened in the afternoon. The wind was light southeast. Best breases came in front of the harbour.

In the evening I red a book by JD Salinger.

Veleiro cup (10) 9.6.2011

Tuuli kevyttä kaakkoistuulta. Lähtö onnistui parhaiten tänä vuonna. Luovilla oltiin vielä hyvissä asemissa, mutta myötätuuliosuudella pari venettä meni ohi. Maalissa oltiin fyysisesti viidentenä, tasoitusten jälkeen viimeisinä.

Light southeast wind. The start was best this year. On headwind part we where in good positions, but on the tailwind part of the competition a couple of boats passed. On the finishline we were physically fifth, but after calculation we were last.

Työleiri sunnuntai /Labor camp sunday (9)

Sunnuntaina jatkettiin taas pesua ja vahausta. Ruokatauolla Timo teki muistiinpanoja saaressa laulaneista linnuista. Ohi purjehti jossakin vaiheessa porukkavene Pandion.

On sunday we continued washing and waxing. On lunch break Timo made notes from the birds which have singed in the island. We also saw a sailingboat Pandion, which is owned by a group of people to which we also belong.

Työleiri/ Labor camp(8)

Purjehdittiin Lehmään reippaassa lounaistuulessa 7-16 kn. Lehmässä pidettiin työleiri, vahausta ja sisäpesua. Timo ja Ulla nukkuivat teltassa yötä. Korppi raakkui vielä illan viimeisinä tunteina.

We sailedto island Lehmä in rather good southweast wind. Speeds were from 7 to 16 kn. In island Lehmä we had a labour camp, washing inside and waxin. Timo and Ulla slept in tent. A raven cawed during the night.

Sunnuntaina mantereelle /On sunday to home (7)

Jalkaset nukkuivat teltassa yön, koska pitävät telttailusta. Trimmu yöpyi kallionkielekkeen takana suojaisassa poterossa.

Aamulla purjehdittiin Kukion lahdelle, missä paistoin pannulla leipiä ja makkaroita. Takaisin kotiin purjehdittiin Kirkonmaan eteläpuolitse. Tuuli oli heikonlaista, mutta matka sujui kuitenkin yli 7 solmua.

Kevätsiivoukset olivat vielä tekemättä, mutta vieraat kyllä siivosivat. Siitä Ullalle ja Timolle kiitokset.

The family Jalkanen slept in tent, because they like tenting very much. Trimmu slept behind a big rock in calm part of the bay.

During the morning we sailed to the bay of Kukio, where I staked sausages and bread on a frying pan. Back to home we sailed around Island Kirkonmaa. The wind was calm, but the speed was over 7 kn.

The cleaning of the boat was undun, but the guests made all the cleaning. Thanks for that to Ulla and Timo.

Lauantaina saareen/ On saturday to island (6)

Piti tehdä ensimmäinen yöretki saaristoon. Lähtö meni vain myöhäiseksi. Aluksi tavoitteena oli Ulko-Tammio tai Kukio. Myöhäisen lähdön takia yllettiin vain Nuokkoihin.

Mukavaa oli illan pimetessä kuunnella keväisiä lintujen lauluja ja filosofoida kahvikupposen ääressä. Tällaisia kiireettömiä iltahetkiä sitä kaipaa. Niiden takia jaksaa rämpiä räntäsateessa.

We have thoughed to make a over night trip to some Island. The start was however too late. First we were going to Ulko-Tammio or Kukio. Because of late start we went only to Island Nuokko.

 It was nice to listen bird singing and discuss about interesting things when drinking coffee. This kind of moments with no hurry to anywhere you want to have. Because of these moments you are able to work hard during cold winters.

Veleiro cup (5)

Päivän mittaan oli luvattu reippaitakin tuulia, mutta lähtö oli melko kevyttä. Tällä kertaa ei myöhästytty.

Luovilla tehtiin liikaa käännöksiä. Trimmu ei ole parhaimmillaan kevyen tuulen luoveilla. Jäätiin aika kauaksi keulasta. Kun kurssi kääntyi itään ja tuuli virkosi nostettiin genaakkeri. Muutama vene ohitettiin ja oltiin maalissa viidentenä.

Oppiahan tämä taas oli. Oppia toisten veneiden väistelystä ja luovimisesta.

The weather forecast promised during the day good winds, but during the start wind got down. This time we were not late at start.

On the tacking part we made too many turns. Trimmu is not on its best on light wind tacking. We got rather far away from the first boat. When the course turned to east and the wind raised we got up the genaakker. We passed a couple of boats but were fifth in the finish line.

This was learning again. We learned to avoid other boats and also tacking.

22.5.2011 Sunnuntaipurjehdus (4) /Sundaysailing

Laitettiin etupurjeen takareunaan liehu. Kiristettiin etupurjeen etuliesmaa rullalla. Käytiin vähän kokeilemassa, ovatko asetukset kohdallaan. Tuuli oli puuskaista. Hetkittäin vauhti nousi mukaviin lukemiin. Meno oli turvallisen tuntuista, mutta jännitys kutkutti mielen pohjalla.

We put a telltail to the backside of frontsail. We tightened the front side of foresail. We went to try if the settings are right. The wind was gusty. The speed got up to nice readings. I felt no fear but a little bit of excitement occured in the back of mind.

Torstaipurjehdus /Thorsdaysailing (3)

Ensimmäinen torstaipurjehdus. Luovit ei toiminut, eikä voitu nostaa genaakkeria kun paria blokia ei löytynyt.

First thorsdaysailing. Not so good tacking, we could not set up the genaaker when a couple of necessary peaces were at home.

11.5.2005 Trimmu veteen/ Trimmu to water (1)

Laskettiin Trimmu veteen ja purjehdittiin Sapokkaan.

We launched Trimmu to water and sailed to Sapokka (our sailing clubs home base.)

Lightning ranking

Osallistuttiin Lightning-ranking-kisaan Tuusulassa. Aurinko paistoi, eivätkä tuuletkaan olleet kovin rankkoja.

We participated in Lightning -ranking in Tuusula. The sun shined, and the winds were not so very  hard.

Litti veneen kunnostusta ranking kisaa varten /Maintenance for Litti named sailing boat for ranking race

Kiirettä pitää, jotta saadaan Litti vene siihen kuntoon, että sillä voi osallistua ensi viikonlopun ranking-kisaan.

It seems to become a little hurry, so that we can get Litti -boat ready for ranking race in the coming weekend.

Etuvaijerin mittailua koleassa tuulessa /Measuring the frontwire in rather cold wind

Käytiin tänään kaverin kanssa mittaamassa hänen veneensä etuvaijeri rullafokkaa varten. Ilma oli kylmä tuulen vuoksi vaikka melko aurinkoinen.

We measured the frontwire from my friends boat for a rollerjib. The weather was cold because of the wind unless the sun shined.
